Reconditioning
Reconditioning: rebuilding strength around old injuries and years of wear
No two people train the same way, and no two shoulder or back injuries are the same. Reconditioning is how Tim gets worn-down bodies moving and lifting well again.
Quick answerReconditioning is training that rebuilds strength, movement and correct form in a body worn down by old injuries, age or years of bad habits. At All Points Fitness, Tim Underwood starts with an injury assessment and teaches each movement around what your body can do today. It is training, not physical therapy.

What is reconditioning?
Reconditioning is defined here as retraining the body after injury, wear or long inactivity: restoring strength, range of motion and correct movement patterns, then building from there. Tim describes a reconditioning specialist as “someone with decades of education, knowledge, and experience. Much more than just a personal trainer.”
His approach has six focus areas:
- Training around injuriesPrograms built around your injury history
- Nutritional awarenessEating patterns and lifestyle
- MotivationCommitment to success
- Bringing balanceThe mind–body connection
- Muscle dynamicsProper form and technique
- Mindset trainingSeeing the big picture
Who is reconditioning for?
- People who keep re-injuring the same shoulder, knee or back.
- Veterans and former athletes carrying years of wear.
- Anyone who finished physical therapy and wants to keep getting stronger.
- Lifelong lifters who have drifted into bad habits and lighter weights.
- Adults coming back after years of inactivity.
I spent 20 years in Air Force Special Operations and retired in 2012. I loved every bit of serving but it took a toll on my body. I always believed with the right type of training much of it could stabilize or improve my issues. I had used many trainers throughout my career and beyond but none seem to possess what I was looking for. After 30 years of looking, I found it with Tim Underwood. After my initial conversation with him, I knew he had what I was looking for! I did the six week program and he was able to have me accomplish what I had not been able to do otherwise. His knowledge, experience, mentorship, and techniques are beyond compare. He could see and sense things even before I could and when he asked or pointed them out, I was blown away that someone could do that. This is the lifestyle change you are looking for to live longer and healthier!
How does Tim recondition a client?
Tim's process is Listen, Repeat, Reinvent:
- Listen. Understand your unique needs: the injury, how it happened, what makes it worse and what your doctor has said.
- Repeat. Practice proper form and technique until it's automatic. Often that means unlearning habits that caused the problem.
- Reinvent. Adapt and evolve your program as you get stronger, so progress doesn't stall.
After 12 workouts, I noticed a difference. I was lifting heavier weights than usual with no shoulder pain.

What reconditioning is not
All Points Fitness provides training, not medical care. Tim doesn't diagnose or treat injuries, and reconditioning isn't a substitute for a doctor or a licensed physical therapist. If you're in pain, recovering from surgery or unsure whether exercise is safe for you, see your doctor first and bring their guidance to your consultation.
Questions about reconditioning
What is a reconditioning specialist?
At All Points, a reconditioning specialist is a trainer with decades of education and experience who rebuilds strength, movement and good habits in bodies that have been worn down by injury, age or years of training wrong. Tim calls it "much more than just a personal trainer."
Is reconditioning the same as physical therapy?
No. Physical therapy is medical treatment from a licensed therapist. Reconditioning at All Points is training: it often comes after physical therapy ends, or works around old injuries that never fully healed. Always follow your doctor's or therapist's guidance.
Can you help with an old shoulder, knee or back injury?
Tim builds programs around injury history every day. Dan S., 77, had injured his right shoulder for years; after 12 workouts with Tim, he was lifting heavier with no shoulder pain. Every injury is different, so start with a free consultation and your doctor's OK.
I'm a veteran with a lot of wear on my body. Is this for me?
Clients include veterans like Vince D., who spent 20 years in Air Force Special Operations and says Tim "could see and sense things even before I could."
